Greeting
by the Senator for Culture and Europe in Berlin for TAG DER CLUBKULTUR 2021
This year on October 3rd, Berlin again stands for club culture!
We celebrate the „TAG DER CLUBKULTUR“ (Day of Club Culture) for the second time ever—and for the second time too, amidst enormously challenging times for the art and culture scene. But again and again, the places and the people in our club culture have said and shown: together, we can make it!
That's why the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR exists. With its extensive, diverse program throughout the city, today shows us the diversity of Berlin's club culture, its socio-cultural and artistic significance. In September, we honored 40 clubs and collectives for their outstanding commitment, and today, they share their programs with us. We support this together with the Musicboard and the Clubcommission.
Club culture has been hit particularly hard by the coronavirus pandemic, and the existential threat was and is real. Through the pilot project “Reboot Club Culture” this August, we made an important step towards reopening, together with clubs and the Charité. And just a short while later, we can now dance in the clubs again. I thank all of you so much for this good work — keep it up.
My warmest congratulations to all the awardees of the “Tag der Clubkultur” and enjoy the program!
Klaus Lederer
