emergent bass
Emergent Bass is an interdisciplinary event series celebrating the healing potential of Afro-diasporic bass music and polyrhythms, while using the club space as a vehicle to practice embodied, emergent forms of care and solidarity. Emergent Bass gives a platform to Black, Indigenous, People of Colour and those with migration or refugee backgrounds to honour the cultural roots of bass music and club culture. The event series has an archival approach with the aim to reconnect Techno and club culture in Berlin to its Black origins. We are interested in weaving deeper forms of care and solidarity onto the dance floor so that the club can be a site for healing, solidarity and building sustainable communities.
Event
Clubraum, Freiraum, Schutzraum – Clubkultur und sozialer Wandel
On October 3rd, DJ, producer and activist Sarah Farina (Emergent Bass/ Transmission), Daniel Schneider (Emergent Bass/ Archiv der Jugendkulturen), Slic Unit and Raiders will speak about the history, present and future of club culture.
How can we use clubs as spaces to practice solidarity and social change? And why is it so essential to make DJs and artists from the African diaspora as well as queer artists and those with migration or refugee backgrounds visible and to appreciate the cultural roots of club culture?
